Updating Your Home

Your home is most likely the largest investment you will ever make so keeping it looking good is important. Fashions come and go and tastes change over time but good quality classic goods are always in style. When investing in something like bathroom hardware it’s important to consider many product attributes. Most bathrooms are heavily trafficked and see frequent daily use; bathrooms also tend to have high humidity and moisture levels so mildew and rust may occur over time.

When shopping for bathroom hardware don’t just go for the first thing you see. An intricate filigree or other ornate design may pose cleaning and care issues over time. Keeping hardware clean does a lot to prevent rust so often a smoother finish and a simple style will be easier to care for and subsequently look stylish for a longer time. Gold finishes may tarnish and not all bath hardware is rustproof, in fact even stainless steel may pit over time. Look for good quality brass hardware which may then be plated in an attractive finish. For example, a chrome-plates brass fixture will be silver in color; brass hardware does not necessarily mean the hardware has a brass finish but brass hardware is the best quality.

When shopping for bedding you may wish to consider custom order bedding as a worthwhile investment but practically speaking bedding wears over time so despite the best designs and fabrics, a custom comforter or bedspread is not likely to last any longer than a good quality “off the rack” model. Given the advances in modern manufacturing coupled with the wide array of textiles available today it’s not really necessary to pay for custom bedding.
